Os Duetos de Stuart Staples


Não fosse conhecida aos Tindersticks o gosto por bandas sonoras de filmes e estranhar-se-ia este disco onde as 11 canções são acompanhadas por outros 11 pequenos filmes de outros tantos realizadores independentes. Oportunidade tive de em 13 de Julho de 2016 ter visto, no Teatro Municipal de Vila do Conde incluído no programa do "Curtas Vila do Conde", a actuação dos Tindersticks com a respectiva projecção dos vídeos.
Do principio ao fim, desde a inicial versão de "Follow Me", um tema de amor original de Bronislau Kaper do filme "Revolta na Bounty" de 1962, até "Like Only Lovers Can" o tema final.

Vídeos à parte, o que hoje me interessa são os duetos incluídos neste álbum, primeiro foi "Hey Lucinda" que ontem recordámos e, para hoje, o segundo "We Are Dreamers!" com a francesa Jehnny Beth vocalista do grupo Rock inglês Savage.
Também os Savage tive oportunidade de ver, desta vez no Primavera Sound a 10 de Junho também em 2016 e assim constatar os dotes vocais inegáveis desta cantora.

Mais uma vez nas palavras de Stuart Staples ao site npr.org (Nacional Public Radio, Inc. [US]):
"Jehnny [Beth of Savages] and I were both guest singers at this concert in London at The Barbican, a night of music from David Lynch films. I was aware of Savages, but that was the first time I'd seen her sing live. I was working on 'We Are Dreamers!' at the time, and I was talking to Julian about some kind of brass arrangement in the second half of the song that would give it discord and urgency and movement. But when I heard Jehnny sing, I thought, 'Okay, this is what this songs needs.' The presence of her. When I talked about to her and gave her the song to listen to, the only thing I said to her was, 'I don't think this is just a duet or a case of backing vocals. There's another person, another presence, here.' I knew that if it was going to work with Jehnny, it would take ten minutes in the studio. And it took ten minutes. It was a second take. She was just so perfect for it. She got it."
